"Photography took over from painting during the latter years of Hilditch’s life. From 1853, there is a notable decline in the numbers of painting he exhibited. He was one of the early members of the newly established Photographic Society of London and his photographs were shown at the 1854, 1855, 1856 and 1857 exhibitions."
